Wadena man charged after allegedly using racial slur
A 42-year-old man from Wadena faces a charge of fourth-degree assault -- motivated by bias for allegedly threatening to shoot an African-American man. Police said he also used the n-word in the confrontation.
Daniel Lee Hinz was charged with the crime June 15 after a June 12 incident in which he approached the vehicle of the African-American man in a Wadena trailer court and said, "I told you n-----s to stop speeding," court document said.
Witnesses also said Hinz threatened to "hunt [the speeding man] down and shoot him," according to court documents.
Hinz told police he had approached the man, but denied using the n-word or threatening the man, according to court records.
An omnibus hearing was set for July 20.
