Eight Wadena-Deer Creek FFA members celebrated National FFA Week by attending FFA Day at the Capitol.

Leaving Wadena at 4:45 a.m., the FFA members first attended a protocol meeting at the state transportation building. There they met with the Minnesota State FFA officers and other state FFA staff. After the protocol meeting they met with Rep. Mark Murdock. Then the FFA members toured the Capitol including the Supreme Court and Governor Pawlenty's meeting room.

Following the Capitol tour, they sat in the Senate Gallery listening to the debate on the General Assistance Medical Care bill. Legislators were trying to overturn Pawlenty's veto during this session. The members saw first-hand how parliamentary procedure was used. In the afternoon, the WDC FFA members met with Sen. Dan Skogen. Skogen, along with several other state legislators, took time away from the transportation debate to meet with FFA members from the whole state. Skogen encouraged FFA members to be willing to do things for people who won't be able to repay them. Public service is important. Other legislators emphasized the need for people with leadership training in the field of agriculture.

Later in the day, FFA members were recognized on the House floor while legislators led by Rep. Mary Ellen Otremba took turns reading a resolution in honor of FFA Week. After the resolution was read, legislators stood, applauded and many waved to the FFA members filling the House gallery. About 170 FFA members from across the state attended FFA Day at the Capitol.
