The Wadena Sheriff's Posse organized and held the first clinic in 2003. At that time there was only one other training clinic that was held in Buffalo, Minn. Wadena County Sheriff's Posse had a goal of providing high quality, affordable training for sheriff's posse members of all counties in a more central area. The goal was met and exceeded. Participants come from across Minnesota, as well as Wisconsin, North and South Dakota. There are approximately 90 riders expected this year. This year the training clinic was approved by the Minnesota Board of Peace Officer Standards and Training.

The training sessions include sensory training for the horse and riders, equitation, team challenge, mounted orienteering, personal safety on patrol, self-defense, radio communications, formation riding, search and rescue, man tracking and ground work.

This year there will be a mock disaster and crowd control class held in Wadena. Participating in this training will be the Wadena County Sheriff's Department, Wadena County Emergency Management Systems, Wadena Police Department, Wadena Fire Department, and Tri-County EMS. The Shakopee Mdwakanton Sioux Community is providing a mobile command center, this will take place in the area of Second Street between Aldrich and Bryant on Saturday morning between 10 am and noon.

The fairgrounds is open to the public for the competitions beginning Saturday at 1:15 p.m. for the parade competition, immediately following the parade three other competitions will run simultaneously, equitation, individual obstacle and a fleeing felon competition. On Sunday at 10 a.m., counties will compete in three-person teams during the team competition.
