Wadena boxers lose decisions at Upper Midwest tourney

Wadena boxers DeWayne Steward and Justin Isaacson lost their bouts in the Upper Midwest Golden Gloves Boxing Tournament last Friday and Saturday at Northern Lights Casino in Walker.

Steward was decisioned by St. Paul's Robert Brant in a 178-pound fight. Isaacson lost to Minneapolis boxer Aaron Green by decision in the superheavyweight division.

Steward received the Upper Midwest's Sportsmanship trophy for his effort against Brant, the No. 1-ranked boxer in the nation at 178.

Region 4 boxers winning titles were Brainerd's Nate Rubin at 132 and Fergus Falls' Jesse Wannemacher at 152. Rubin decisioned North Dakota fighter Dustin Mason while Wannemacher scored a second round RSC over Delorien Caraway of Minneapolis.

Region 4 boxers failing to advance were Fergus Falls' Randall Hubbert (141), Detroit Lakes' Shane Kern (165), White Earth's Glen Sommars (123) and Willmar's Santo Reyes (132).
