Volkmann named volleyball team's MVP
Courtney Volkmann earned Most Valuable Player honors Monday as the Wadena-Deer Creek Wolverines celebrated their season.
Volkmann was named first team All-State, joined teammate Kelsi Crawford on the All-Tournament team and was chosen for the Mid-State All-Conference team.
Crawford and Brittney Noon shared MVP-Offense honors. Hope Theisen received the MVP-Defense award.
Other team awards went to Rachael Carlisle (Spirit), Emily Miron (Most Improved) and Rachel Craig and Mandy Perkins (Outstanding Sportsmanship).
Also named all-conference were Crawford, Noon and Carlisle. Theisen, Craig and Perkins earned Mid-State honorable mention.
Caitlin Volkmann led the team in serving percentage by converting on 99 percent of her attempts. Courtney Volkmann led the team with 133 ace serves.
The Wolverines won 30 of their 35 games en route to their second straight Section 8AA championship, their second straight trip to state and the Class AA consolation championship.
