Viola Ellen Gaylord
Viola Ellen Gaylord, age 90, of Osakis, MN, formerly of Wadena, MN, passed away January 26, 2014 at Centra Care Health-Long Prairie Hospital in Long Prairie, MN.
Viola was born on August 31, 1923 in Rockwood Township of Wadena County, MN to Olaf and Delile (Gaetske) Loween, one of four children to bless their family.
She attended country school near her rural home and then went on to attend high School in Sebeka. She was united in marriage to Everett Frisbie and they were blessed with one daughter, Ellen. In 1947, Viola ventured to Minneapolis where she gained employment working with a large grocery store chain. She later moved to Houston, Texas where she worked for the Bemis Bag Company. Later, Viola worked as a store detective, helping to deter theft, for the A & P Grocery Store Company. She was united in marriage to John Gaylord on March 5, 1952 in Ft. Lauderdale, FL. For a number of years, Viola and Johnny owned and operated "Tradewinds Store" in Miami, FL. They later moved to Hudson and Stow, Ohio where Viola worked in sales for the Sears Dept. Store. In 1972, they returned to Wadena, MN where Viola continued her career in retail sales as the owner and operator of Vis fashions for many years until her retirement in the mid-1990s. Throughout her lifetime, Viola enjoyed collecting antiques, jewelry and dolls. Above all, Vi devoted her life to her husband, John, her daughter and her grandchildren who she loved with all her heart.
She will be lovingly remembered by her beloved husband, John Gaylord of Osakis, MN; her daughter, Ellen (Nolan) Bacon of Wadena; her five grandchildren: Brett (Mary Beth) Bacon of Robbinsdale, MN, Lee (Gretchen) Bacon of Finlayson, MN, Nola Schultz of Verndale, MN, Dana (Michelle) Bacon of Austin, TX and Travis (Kerri) Bacon of Maple Grove, MN; 13 great grandchildren and nine great great grandchildren; sisters-in-law: Joyce Loween of Alexandria, MN and Lorraine Loween of Nimrod; brother-in-law, Lyle Bushinger of Wadena.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers: Harold and Kenneth and one sister, Fern Bushinger; a nephew, Richard Loween and a niece, Rene Loween; grandson, Lawrence Everett Bacon and great grand daughter, Liv Anna Bacon.
Funeral services will be held 11 AM Saturday, February 15, 2014 at the United Methodist Church in Wadena with the Rev. J.C. Duncan officiating. The organist will be Irma Allen. The soloists will be Marilyn Uselman who will sing, "In The Garden" and John Reichert who will sing, "On Eagles Wings". The active casket bearers will be nephews: Don Meech, Clark Meech, Robert Meech, Dennis Loween, Bruce Loween and Darrell Loween. The honorary casket bearers will be Dale Loween, Jeanine Rathcke and Susan Hoffman. Interment will be made in the Wadena City Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 PM Friday, February 14th at the United Methodist Church in Wadena and for one hour prior to the service on Saturday.
