Vernon William Bursch, 85, of Henning, passed away Sept. 18, 2009, at Lake Region Hospital in Fergus Falls.
He was born Dec. 28, 1923, in Mahnomen to William August and Anna (Strafelda) Bursch. He graduated from the Mahnomen High School with the class of 1942. In 1948, he graduated from the University of North Dakota with a degree in pharmacy. He was employed as a pharmacist in Detroit Lakes for two years. In 1950, he purchased the local drug store in Henning from Bill Leaders. He owned and operated Bursch Drug Store until retiring Jan. 1, 1995. On June 12, 1983, he married Ara Marie Buchan at the First Baptist Church in Henning. Together they made their home in Henning and since 1996 enjoyed spending winters in Brownsville, Texas. He enjoyed gardening, bird watching, charting the stock market, but most of all he loved traveling.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Sept. 22, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Henning, with the Rev. Randy Maland officiating. The pallbearers were Scott Stewart, Erick Harper, Jim Stewart, Doug Fosse, Bernal Cichy and Chris Cichy. The honorary pallbearers were Vernon Kort, Ken Brutlag, Dean Waldemar and Alfred Meyer. He was laid to rest at Riverside Cemetery in Mahnomen, Minn. Arrangements are with the Belmont Funeral Home of Henning.
Survivors include his wife, Ara Bursch of Henning; a niece; many of Ara's sisters; nieces and nephews; other relatives; and a host of friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Elaine and her husband Stanley Obermiller.
