Verndale volleyers win 3-2 squeaker from Laporte

Trista Finck had 24 digs, eight kills and four aces Monday as the Pirates edged Laporte in five.

The Pirates roared to a 25-7 win in the opener before losing the next two matches. Shelley Glenz saw her Pirates squeak out a 25-23 victory in Game 4 and clinch the win with a 15-9 win in Game 5.

Ashley Richter was the team leader in kills with 13. Crystal Haskin dished out 22 assists in the win and Jordanna Schluttner came up with seven blocks.

Pirates place seventh

in Nevis Invitational

Richter had 22 kills in three games last Saturday as the Pirates placed seventh in the Nevis Invitational.

The Pirates lost to Park Rapids 25-14 and 25-16 in their opener and then fell in two 25-21 games to Sebeka. Then salvaged seventh place by overcoming Cass Lake 25-21 and 25-12.

Richter and Finck both had 12 kills in the match with Cass Lake. Haskin was credited with 10 assists.

Brittany Kern contributed eight assists and Teresa Moenkedick had nine digs against Sebeka. Finck blocked three shots and had three kills in the battle with Park Rapids.

Verndale 5-14-16

Richter had four digs, three kills and two ace serves in Verndale's 3-0 loss to Park Region Conference foe Sebeka.

Elizabeth Johnson blocked three shots for the Pirates while Brittany Kern recorded four assists.
