Verndale man charged with 11 felonies
A 20-year-old man from Verndale was charged July 15 with 11 felonies in connection with the theft of firearms from a Wadena residence.
According to Wadena County District Court documents, Joseph Gregory Mench stole seven guns on May 27 from a Wadena home, and later sold one of the guns to another man.
Court documents said accomplices and the man who allegedly bought a gun told police that Mench had bragged about the guns being stolen.
Mench has a crime of violence on his record, namely a felony theft of a motor vehicle in March 2009, as well as felony theft in March 2009 and soliciting a juvenile to commit a criminal act, also a felony, in March 2009.
Mench was charged with five counts of theft -- take/use/transfer movable property with no consent, five counts of possess pistol/assault weapon after the conviction of a violent crime, and one count of burglary in the second degree.
His first court appearance was scheduled for Aug. 9.
