Verndale lift station suffers 'major disaster'
A malfunctioning alarm system compounded a problem with a lift station in Verndale in February, Maintenance Supervisor Jim Bergquist reported Monday night, March 1, to the Verndale City Council.
Bergquist said the dry well flooded like it did in 2005, requiring a company to come in and remove and service two pumps.
The problem was made worse when an updated computer chip meant for the alarm system never arrived in the mail, Bergquist said.
"So the alarm wasn't working even though it looked like it was working," he wrote in his report.
Bergquist said he is looking into whether the alarm company's or the city's insurance will pay for the repair, estimated at $8,500.
