Nicole Bart and Alicia Johnson combined for 11 strikeouts as the Verndale Pirates trounced Nevis 16-1 Monday for their first victory of the 2009 season.

Elizabeth Johnson, Crystal Haskin and Jamie Kern all came up with two hits in the victory.

The Tigers managed to scrape out just two hits against the Bart-Johnson pitching tandem.

The Rebels stormed back with three runs in the bottom of the seventh last Friday to surprise the Pirates.

The Pirates erupted for all five of their runs in the top of the third inning.

Crystal Haskin and Brittany Kern led the Pirates at the plate with two hits apiece.

The Pirates were guilty of seven errors.

Aann Bjorklund made an early 2-0 lead stand up Thursday as her Bulldogs edged the Pirates in a clash of Park Region softball powers.

The Bulldogs played errorless defense in support of Bjorklund, who held the Pirates to just a pair of hits.

Nicole Bart scattered eight hits in the loss.

Toni Hagen and Taylor Lundquist went 2-for-3 in the win. Calley Nelson collected a two-run triple.
