Friends may call on Wednesday at the Chapel from 9:30a.m. until the time of service. Verna passed away at the age of 91 on Friday, October 11, 2013, at Fair Oaks Lodge in Wadena.
Verna Helmi Laine was born on January 14, 1922, to August and Helmi (Komola) Laine in Blowers Township, Otter Tail County, MN. She attended Country School #279 and graduated from Sebeka High School. During the war she worked in upper Michigan and later in Minneapolis, MN. She was united in marriage to Joseph Thomas Hostad on June 19, 1950. Their son Thomas was born in Minneapolis on July 22, 1951. They purchased a farm south of Wadena in November of 1958, and built their home. Joe passed away unexpectedly, on March 18, 1963, leaving Verna and their eleven year old son, Thomas, to continue the farming. She loved to knit and read until her failing eyesight made both too difficult. Even though it was a struggle for Verna to leave the farm in 2009 and move into Fair Oaks Lodge she is now at peace.
Verna was preceded in death by her husband Joseph; parents August and Helmi; brothers Eino and Carl Laine; and sister Martha Laine.
She is survived by her son Thomas of Wadena.
Burial will be at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis, MN.
