Verna Mae Chase, 81, formerly of Deer Creek, passed away Tuesday, March 3, 2007, in Kalispell, Mont.

She was born April 21, 1925, at the family home in Todd County to Ervin and Zoa Anderson. She was married to Harris Chase on Nov. 23, 1941, at the Union Corners Church parsonage, near Hewitt. During and after the years following World War II, she spent her time as a homemaker. She loved to sew, cook, garden, paint and crochet along with many other activities and was an exceptionally loving wife and mother. She loved music and spent countless hours playing her guitar accompanying Harris's fiddle. Many from the Wadena and Otter Tail County areas will remember their music. Singing and playing from childhood, she met Harris when she and her sister provided the music at his grandparents' anniversary party. Both Chases were active in the Montana State Old Time Fiddlers.
