The Mass of Christian Burial for Vanette Dykhoff of Wadena will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 15, 2014, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Bluffton with Father Aaron Kuhn as celebrant. Friends may call on Friday at the Johnson-Schuller Chapel in Wadena from 5:00-8:00 p.m. with Rosary at 5:00and Prayers at 6:00 p.m. Visitation will resume at the church on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of Mass. Vanette passed away on Monday, March 10, 2014, at 72 years of age, at Sanford Hospital in Fargo, ND.

Vanette was born to Toivo and Hulda (Hyrynkangas) Perna on April 5, 1941, in Deer Creek Township, Otter Tail County, MN. She attended District #136 Country School in Deer Creek Township and graduated in 1959 from New York Mills High School. Vanette was united in marriage with Gordon Dykhoff on August 28, 1961, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Bluffton. As a homemaker and care giver for her children and grandchildren, Vanette was especially talented in baking and was known for her homemade bread. She liked going for walks and spending time with all of her grandchildren. Vanette was proud of her Finnish heritage and often spoke Finnish with her siblings. She loved a good sauna! Vanette was quick-witted and often listened to old-time music.

Vanette was preceded in death by her parents Toivo and Hulda; brothers Vernon, Dennis, Alvin, Morris and Jim Perna.

She is survived by her husband Gordon; daughters Tammy (Jeff) Weiher of Farmington, Brenda (Dean) Perala of New York Mills, Mary (John) Zvorak of Kerkoven, Melissa (Clarence) Mast, Kim Yoder, and Denise (Kelly) Hudson all of New York Mills; son Gordon Jr. (Dinee) of Wadena; grandchildren Kimberly and Bethany Weiher, Nicole (Devlin) Hessig, Kristen and Andrew Perala, Mandy, Jessica, Jacob and Mathew Zvorak, Michael and Jeremy Mast, Megan, Kaylee and Christopher Yoder, Sarah and Kaitlyn Dykhoff, Rowland, Dixie and Hazel Dykhoff; great-grandchildren Dayton Knight, Elias Hessig, Brayden Zvorak and Avah Mast; brother Marvin Perna of New York Mills; sisters Vivian Neuvonen of Vergas, Vida Hoeke of Milbank, SD and Verla (Harold) Snethen of Dent; along with a host of relatives and friends.

Burial will be in St. John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery in Bluffton.

Arrangements are with the Johnson-Schuller Chapel in Wadena. (
