VA service connected evaluations and entitlements for veterans
Evaluation of 0 percent Service Connection (no monetary compensation)
Outpatient treatment at the VA Medical Centers for:
1. Service connected condition
2. For all medical conditions if enrolled in the VA Health Care System, a copayment for treatment may apply for non-service connected conditions.
Medical treatment in Non-VA facilities for:
Service connection condition with fee basis card issued by the authorizing VA Medical center. Certain restrictions apply.
Temporary increase total evaluation with payment at the 100 percent rate:
Based on hospitalization for service connected disability nessiting at least one month of convalesce or immobilization by cast without surgery of one major joint or more.
For veterans who use or wear prosthetic or orthopedic appliance (artificial limb, brace wheelchair) or use a prescribed medications for a skin condition which tend to wear, tear or soil clothing.
Service Disabled Life Insurance:
Must apply within 2 years from initial notice of service connection of a disability.
Home Loan Guarantee Certificate of eligibility
Dental treatment for:
1. Service connected dental condition
2. Follow-up dental treatment which begun while hospitalization at a VA medical center
3. Any former Prisoner of War with 90 consecutive days, or more of confinement.
10 point Civil Service Preference. (10 points added to Civil service score)
No co-payments for Prescription Drugs for any service connected condition.
Evaluation of 10 percent to 20 percent Service Connection (monetary compensation) and entitlement to all of the above and:
Which includes full medical and dental (Chapter 31)
Funding fees waived for Home Loan Guarantee
Glasses free of charge if enrolled in VA Health Care
No co-payments for treatment at VA Medical Facilities
Evaluation of 30 percent Service Connection (monetary compensation) and Entitlement to all of the above and:
Additional compensation for dependents (spouse, children, and dependant parents)
Additional Allowance for spouse who is a patient in a Nursing Home
Travel allowance for scheduled appointments for care of all medical conditions (except dental) at all VA Medical Centers or out-patient clinics.
Non-competitive civil service appointments.
Affirmative action in employment.
Evaluation of 40 percent Service Connection (monetary compensation) and Entitlement to all of the above and:
Automobile Assistance (one-time payment of 8000.00). Veterans must have service connected loss of one or both hands, feet, or permanent loss of use or permanent impairment of vision in both eyes.
Special Adaptive automobile Equipment (Veteran must have service connected ankylosis (immobility) of one or both knees or one or both hips).
Evaluation of 50 percent Service Connection (monetary compensation) and Entitlement to all of the above and:
No co-payments for Prescription Drugs.
Evaluation of 60 percent to 90 percent Service Connection with individual unemployability (monetary compensation) and Entitlement to all of the above and:
Increase compensation to the 100 percent rate if the Service Connected disabilities prevent the veteran from seeking gainful employment.
Evaluation of 70 percent to 90 percent Service Connection and Temporary 100 percent rating for 1 year (monetary compensation) and Entitlement to all of the above and:
$150,000 of the value of your home is take off on property taxes (only in Minnesota.) You must reapply every year.
Permanent and Total Evaluation either 100 percent or 60 percent to 90 percent with Individual Unemployability (monetary compensation) and Entitlement to all of the above and:
Educational assistance for dependents (Chapter 35 benefits)
Civilian Health and Medical Program for dependents/survivors (CHAMPVA)
Commissary and exchange privileges
Permanent and Total Evaluation 100 percent (monetary compensation) and entitlement to all of the above and:
Emergency treatment in Non-VA facilities (if VA facilities are not available)
$300,000 of the value of your home is taken off on property taxes (only in Minnesota.) You need only to apply once.
