USDA official tours damage
Linda Hennen, state executive director with USDA Farm Service Agency, was in Wadena and Otter Tail Counties recently to complete damage assessments of the damage from the June 17, 2010 tornadoes. Hennen toured the disaster areas in the City of Wadena and Otter Tail County. Hennen met with Jim Maloney, who farms near Deer Creek, and viewed the extensive damage to his farm site. Maloney lost all of his farm buildings and house in the tornado.
Local FSA offices are required to submit Damage Assessment Reports whenever a natural disaster occurs. Reports documenting damages have been submitted and a disaster declaration is expected. Low interest rate disaster loans would be available for farmers suffering a loss from the disaster after the disaster declaration is received.
