United Way fund drive to focus on tornado recovery in 2010
Tornado recovery will be the focus of the 2010 United Way fund drive in the Wadena area.
A portion of the income from this year's drive has been budgeted specifically for tornado relief. Agencies such as The Salvation Army and the Wadena-Verndale Food Shelf that had a huge impact with services in the tornado aftermath have been pledged larger amounts than they have received in previous years. Money can be pledged just to the tornado recovery fund.
Other agencies designated to receive funding include: Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Habitat for Humanity, Madhatters Youth Drama Camp, Rising Phoenix, Tri-County Hospital Community Service Projects, Meals on Wheels, Wadena County DAC, Crisis and Referral Program, Crisis Pregnancy Center, Wadena Senior Center and the Backpack/School Supply Project, which has benefitted students in Bertha-Hewitt, Menahga, Sebeka, Verndale and Wadena-Deer Creek.
Mailings will be reaching businesses and residences next week. The campaign is expected to wrap up by the Christmas holidays.
