Unemployment rate falls with labor force in Wadena County
Wadena County unemployment rates for the month of March edged below double digits for 2012, according to numbers released April 24 by the Minnesota Department of Economic Development (DEED).
The jobless rate for March 2012 was 9.9 percent, not quite back down to levels before the Great Recession, but lower than March of the previous three years.
Loss of jobs and an increased labor force since the year before combined to create the peak March unemployment rate of 14.1 percent in 2009.
March generally tends to have higher jobless rates than most other months of the year.
March 2009 was also the all-time high unemployment rate for the total of months and years since 1990, when data was first recorded.
Since 1990, the lowest ever March unemployment rate was 6.2 in 1999. The labor force peaked in the late 1990s, as well as employment.
