Two-vehicle crash occurs in Staples
On Tuesday at 8:40 a.m. David Deyoung of Staples was westbound on County Road 7 at the intersection of 277th Ave with his 1996 Jeep SUV when he lost control of his vehicle on the slush covered roadway.
Deyoung slid off road way left (South Ditch) when he was struck broadside by a East bound vehicle that had swerved off the roadway to avoid the head on collision.
Ryan Kuklok of rural Cushing was eastbound on County Road 7 with a 2005 GMC Pickup owned by Anderson Bros. Construction of Brainerd when he saw the SUV out of control, drove off roadway right and collided with the Jeep as it was entering the ditch. The Jeep SUV then over turned.
Both drivers were alone at the time. Deyoung was taken Via Ambulance to the Lakewood Hospital where he was treated for minor injuries and released. Staples Fire Rescue Assisted at the scene. Both vehicles were a total loss.
