Trojans pound Wolverines 61-6
Robbie Strand tossed three touchdown passes Friday as the state-ranked Barnesville Trojans trampled Wadena-Deer Creek 61-6 in a Prairie North Conference game at Barnesville.
The run-oriented Trojans used 15 different ballcarriers in the game and scored all five times they had the ball in the first quarter to grab a 35-0 lead.
WDC's lack of depth was apparent all night long.
"I thought the Wadena kids played to the end," Barnesville Head Coach Bryan Strand said. "Obviously they have some athletes but they don't have enough guys."
Strand had a golden arm for the Trojans as he threw touchdown passes on three of his four pass attempts. Strand hit Isaac Goedtke, Brady Dokkebakken and Adam Martz with touchdown passes of 42, 60 and 39 yards. While the Trojans are basically a running team, Strand has managed to pass for 400 yards and eight touchdowns in the first three games of the season.
The Trojans pulled their starters just three plays into the second quarter but still held a 49-0 lead at halftime. They lost their shutout in the third quarter when Evan VanErp found Jeremy Sherman open on a 35-yard touchdown aerial.
Adam Rice was Barnesville's top rusher with 40 yards on four carries.
Logan Meyer gained 29 yards on 12 carries for WDC. Jake Rude caught five balls for 80 yards.
The Wolverines will host Osakis Friday.
