Trojans oust Raiders from Section 6A tourney
The Bertha-Hewitt-Verndale Raiders' bid for a Section 6A championship came up short Feb. 16 in a 44-24 semifinal loss to Barnesville in the Wadena-Deer Creek gym.
The top-ranked Trojans broke on top early with fourth-ranked Raiders by winning the first four matches.
Marshall Willis stopped the string by pinning Michael Farrick only 50 seconds into their 132-pound match.
The Trojans proceeded to win four of the next five matches. Hayden Truax turned the tables on Barnesville's Jace Nosel with a pin at the 4:52 mark of their 152-pound match.
Dillon Card and Dalton Baker racked up pins at 182 and 220, but the Trojans countered with wins at 195 and heavyweight.
Border West whipped New York Mills 44-36 in the other section semifinal match. Barnesville dominated Border West 49-17 in the finals to qualify for a Class A state team tournament spot.
