Spectators cover their ears as a cannon fires during a demonstration Saturday at the 2014 Old Wadena Rendezvous & Folklife Festival. The event, now in its 24th year, celebrates the history of north-central Minnesota. It's held at Old Wadena County Park, along the banks of the Crow Wing River northwest of Staples. Fur traders built a trading post at this site in 1783. The next century, the Red River Ox Cart trail passed through the area. Later, it became the original townsite of Wadena.
