Trap, errors hurt WDC in doubleheader setback
The Park Rapids Panthers pulled out a 3-2 squeaker in Game 1 but romped 12-6 in the nightcap Tuesday to sweep Wadena-Deer Creek in a Mid-State softball doubleheader.
Megan Popp drove in both of WDC's runs in the first game with a bases-loaded hit in the sixth to put the Wolverines on top 2-1.
The Panthers rallied to win in the seventh as a trap allowed two runs to score.
Steph Hahn fanned nine and walked two in the loss. Brieanna Warne struck out 11 and did not walk a batter in posting the win.
Alyssa Carlson went 2-for-3 for the Panthers and scored once.
Leah Dykhoff and Sam Holweger each had a pair of hits for the Wolverines.
Leeza Tostenson went 5-for-5, homered and scored three times for Park Rapids in the second game.
Kelly DeFoe supported her own pitching effort with a 3-for-4 day at the plate, a pair of runs and one RBI.
The Wolverines were guilty of five errors which allowed the Panthers to rally from a 6-1 deficit.
"We've played well at times," WDC head coach Craig Klawitter said. "We just need to shore up our defense."
