Tornadoes were state's top 2010 weather event
The Minnesota Climatology Working Group, affiliated with the University of Minnesota, named the June 17 tornado outbreak as the state's no. 1 weather event in 2010. According to the group, 48 tornadoes touched down on June 17, breaking the June 16, 1992 record of 27 tornadoes.
Also, the no. 5 ranked weather event was Minnesota having a record-breaking 104 tornadoes overall in the year. The previous record for tornadoes in one year was 74 in 2001.
