Top-seeded Marshall is too much
Sue Volkmann's Wadena-Deer Creek Wolverines challenged the top-seeded Marshall Tigers in two of three games Thursday at the Class AA state volleyball tournament.
Making their second straight appearance in the state tournament, the Wolverines made the Tigers work hard for a 25-20 victory in Game 1. The Wolverines led Game 2 until the Tigers were able to rally for a 21-19 deficit with six straight points. The Tigers never trailed in Game 3 and won a 25-11 decision.
Courtney Volkmann had 38 assists and 10 digs for WDC while Kelsi Crawford put down 14 kills. Kayla Wallerich paced the Tigers with nine kills, 23 assists and 13 digs.
The Wolverines, 28-5, will face New London-Spicer, 32-2, in a consolation bracket match Friday at 5 p.m. On the Xcel Center's No. 2 court.
