Top-ranked Lakers oust Wolverines from playoffs

No. 1 Minnewaska overcame a 3-1 advantage by No. 8 Wadena-Deer Creek Tuesday en route to an 11-3 fastpitch decision in a West Sub-Section 6AA tournament game.

Victoria Witthuhn doubled and scored WDC’s first run in the first frame. Witthuhn scored again in the third along with teammate Morgan Zeise on singles by Sam Manselle and Emily Orsello.

Minnewaska’s Mady Phillips found her stuff over the last four innings and surrendered only two more hits, both singles by Manselle.

The Lakers ripped Witthuhn for 15 hits and 11 earned runs. Phillips went 3-for-4, scored twice and drove in four runs. Five Minnewaska players collected two hits. Bayley Pooler went 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBIs.

The young Wolverines ended their season with a 3-14 record.
