Tigers pull away from Pirates

The Verndale Pirates could not keep up with Browerville in the second half Tuesday in a 62-51 loss at Verndale.

Good man-to-man defense by the Pirates kept the Tigers off the board for the first six minutes of the game. Down by 11, the Tigers started working their way back and the two teams went into the half tied at 24-all.

The Tigers went on a 10-point spree of their own to start the second half and out-scored the Pirates 38-27.

Eric Blaha and James Kveton had double-doubles for the Pirates. Blaha scored a game-high 22 points and pulled down 13 boards. Kveton canned 10 points and collected 10 rebounds. Mitchell Blaha netted 15 points in the loss.

Bryce Irsfeld led the Tigers with 19 tallies. Jordan Thielen and Trevor Johnson score 13 and 10 points respectively.

The loss evened Verndale's record a 1-1.

The Pirates host Menahga Friday in a Park Regon Conference tilt.
