Thomas J. Trana, age 83, of Staples, passed away at the Lakewood Hospital on Wednesday, Aug. 22. Services will be held 11 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 27, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Staples. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at the Evergreen Hill Cemetery.
Tom was born on Nov. 13, 1928, in Staples, Minn. to Thomas and Essie (Hubbard) Trana. While in High School, Tom went to work for the Northern Pacific Railroad. After graduation, he was united in marriage to Barbara Modrow.
He enlisted in the Army and served in Korea. Upon returning from the military, he went back to work for the railroad, retiring with 45 years in 1990. He also served on the Staples Fire Department for 30 years. Additionally, Tom enjoyed hunting, fishing, and gardening.
Tom is survived by his sons, Kim of Staples, Thomas (Kathleen) of Motley and Dennis (Mona) of Staples; daughters, Amber (Dale) Bartylla of Hewitt and Debra (Clyde) Mertens of Staples; 12 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; sisters-in-law, Sally Ross and Dorothy Trana; brother-in-law, Mike Reger; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara; his parents; sisters, Erma, Lila, Gloria and Janice; and brothers, Henry, Norman and Clinton.
Arrangements are pending with the Brenny Funeral Home in Staples.
