Thinking Spring and next year
Tyler Church, Principal, WDC Middle/High School
We have entered the second half of the school year and things continue to be as busy as ever at Wadena-Deer Creek Public Schools. Second-semester classes are under way, and registration for next year's classes is right around the corner. Our winter sports seasons have started tournament time and in a few weeks, it will be spring sports season.
Over the past couple of weeks, our students have taken their first step towards planning for next year's classes. All of our 8th — 11th grade students received their registration information during advisory meetings two weeks ago. These packets contained information on required courses and elective options for next year. Our students had a week to look over this information before we brought them in for official registration last week. It was our hope they took these materials home and visited with parents/guardians about their best options for next year.
Once registration was completed, we now examine class interest and create our master schedule based off these registration numbers. The goal will be to have our master schedule for next year completed by the end of March. At that time, our school counselor, Mrs. Kraska, will create a yearly schedule for each student. It will be our goal to continue to offer our students a wide variety of classes. Currently, we offer many courses in our core areas of english, math, science and social studies. We also offer 11 college courses and a large selection of elective courses in art, music, business, family and consumer science, physical education, industrial technology, and Spanish.
In addition to registration and scheduling next year's classes, we also have spring conferences coming up. Conferences will be held on Thursday, March 6 from 3:15 to 9 p.m. This is a great opportunity for parents to meet with teachers and discuss their child's progress. Please join us and get an update on how your child is doing.
