Theresa Gorghuber, 85, of Bertha, passed away Wednesday, June 3, 2009, at the Knute Nelson Memorial Home in Alexandria.

She was born May 9, 1924, to John and Ella Kaluza at Browerville. She married Jerome Gorghuber on Sept. 9, 1950, in St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Browerville. Together, they bought the bakery in Bertha and operated it from 1955 until 1977. After closing the bakery, she worked for a time at the First National Bank of Bertha/Verndale (now Star Bank, NA) in Bertha.

She was a member of St. Joseph's Church in Bertha, Christian Mothers, American Legion Auxiliary, VFW Auxiliary, Rural Mail Carriers Association Auxiliary, Senior Citizens, Historical Society and volunteered at the Central Todd County Care Center in Clarissa. She enjoyed card playing, traveling, volunteering, working with service organizations, reading, camping and crocheting. With a ready smile, she loved spending time with family and friends.

The Mass of Christian Burial was held Monday, June 8, at the Christ The King Catholic Church in Browerville. The Revs. Dan Walz of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Bertha and Al Holmes of the St. Cloud Hospital in St. Cloud celebrated the Mass assisted by Mike Kellogg and Peter Kirchner. Pallbearers were her grandsons Eric Gorghuber, Aaron Hart, Kiel Hart, Steven Gorghuber, Daniel Gorghuber and Joseph Gorghuber. Burial was in the St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery in Bertha. Domian-Anderson Funeral Home (www.domian-anderson.com) was in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include her sons, Bruce (Carol) of Wadena, Mark (Katie) of Duluth, Dennis (Reeny) of Waconia and Kevin (Mary) of Alexandria; daughters, Carol (Walter) Hart of Sauk Rapids, Jean (David) Hummel of Minneapolis and Julie (Jeff) Randel of Bakersfield, Calif.; 13 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and sisters, Rose Kaluza of Minneapolis and Helen Barnes of Richmond, Mo.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry, in 1990; parents, John (in 1949) and Ella (in 1950); brothers, Al Kaluza, Robert Kaluza, Peter Kaluza and Jerome Kaluza; and sisters, Kathern Gmyrek and Sophia Gonsior.
