Theisen cards 91 in pre-section tournament
Heather Theisen led the way with a 91 Monday as the Wadena-Deer Creek girls’ golf team finished seventh in the pre-section tournament at Blackberry Ridge.
Playing the Sartell course for the first time, Theisen shot a 44 on the front nine and a 47 on the back to place seventh overall in a field of 54.
Staples-Motley’s Emily Israelson led the field with a 74. Osakis eighth-grader Alayna Eldred was second with a 79.
Osakis won the 10-team meet with a 348. The Wolverines came in with a 426.
Gabi Ross and Jess Rondestvedt tacked up rounds of 104 and 107. Jessica Langer and McKayla Woods shot rounds of 124 and 130. The Wolverines were without the services of senior golfer Paige Hartman.
“We will have to play better to advance to the second day of sections and have a chance at a state entrant,” WDC head coach Missy Tabery said. “Heather Theisen played steady with a couple of holes giving her trouble but after seeing the course she should be able to play those holes better.”
