Terry Frost is the latest full-time police officer to join the ranks of the Wadena Police Department.

A former Marine, Frost is a veteran of both Gulf Wars with a total of 14 years of military service. He is also a member of the U.S. Army National Guard, where he is part of a sniper section.

Frost found out about the Wadena job opening last year while he was stationed in Kuwait, assisting with the withdrawal of troops from Iraq as part of Operation New Dawn.

One could say he comes into the job with a bit of prior experience.

Although he's been all over the world as part of his military career, Frost also has strong ties to the area. He grew up in New York Mills and worked at Leaf River Ag Co-op in between stints overseas.

After graduating from Alexandria Technical College in 2010, he worked part time at the New York Mills, Perham and Wadena police departments before finally coming to work here full time.

He lives in New York Mills with his wife and two children.

Wadena Police Chief Bruce Uselman said Frost's local roots were a factor in the decision to hire him.

"He's very mature, he's been part of the community here for a number of years," Uselman said. He added that Frost stood out in both the written and oral interviews.

"He's going to be a great fit for the community plus our law enforcement family," Sgt. Naomi Plautz said.

Frost said the citizens of Wadena are part of the reason he chose to work here.

"People are friendly. They'll come visit with you," Frost said. "I knew some of the business owners through work previously with Leaf River."

As of Feb. 1, Frost will become a full-time patrol officer with the Wadena Police Department, Uselman said.

Frost said he is excited to work here.

"To me, it's rewarding," he said. "If you can help somebody, and they're happy about it ... it's great."
