Tennis gets first victory

Pete Tranvik's Wadena-Deer Creek Wolverines picked up three court victories Tuesday in the Detroit Lakes Triangular.

The Wolverines bowed to Crookston 5-2 but pulled out a singles victory and a doubles win.

Joey Pate, normally a doubles player, won his No. 3 singles match with Tanner Johnson 6-4, 6-4.

Mike Paavola and Austin Korkowski switched from singles to doubles and topped the team of A.J. Biermaier and Ehren Mercil 6-2, 6-4 in the No. 1 match.

Drew Larson was the only winner for WDC in a 6-1 loss to Detroit Lakes. Larson claimed his No. 2 singles match with Collin Harris 6-1, 6-3.

WDC 5, Perham 2

The Wolverines swept the singles Thursday in posting their first victory of the 2011 season.

Dennis Loeper, Mike Paavola, Austin Korkowski and Drew Larson were all winners in singles play.

WDC's No. 1 doubles team of Joey Pate and Corey Pettow also chalked up a victory.
