TCHC to implement new tobacco-free campaign
July 1 marks the date when Tri-County Health Care becomes a tobacco-free campus. The hospital's current smoke-free policy prohibits smoking on sidewalks and throughout the grounds and facilities. The new plan expands the smoke-free policy to create a more comprehensive tobacco-free campaign.
More than 440,000 deaths are caused each year by smoking, TCHC said. The new policy covers other tobacco products and enables TCHC to lead by example through a more proactive role in its commitment to community health. For example, TCHC plans to offer free smoking cessation classes to patients as well as hospital and clinic employees. Additionally, health educators intend to collaborate with physicians by providing helpful quitting aids for their patients.
Most people understand the serious negative health consequences associated with any form of tobacco. By taking this next step in protecting patients and employees TCHC further highlights our organization's mission "To Improve the Health of Our Community."
