Swimming lessons available in NYM
Swimming lessons for Wadena kids will be available at the Legried Community Pool of New York Mills from June 22-July 1.
"New York Mills has offered to have a special session for Wadena kids," Wadena City Administrator Brad Swenson said. "If that doesn't work for them, they could also sign up for their other lessons July 11-22 and July 25 to Aug. 5. That's on a first come, first serve basis."
A flyer was handed out to kids in school.
For those interested, the sign-up form for the session should be turned in to the City of Wadena office at 222 2nd Street SE or by mail to P.O. Box 30, Wadena, MN 56482 by June 10.
For questions, call the city office at (218) 631-2561.
At a special meeting Friday, May 27, a quorum of the Wadena city council approved $811 for bus transportation and roughly $350 for a chaperone.
Wadena's pool was destroyed in the June 17, 2010 EF4 tornado.
Mayor Wayne Wolden said that Fire Chief Dean Uselman sent an email saying he would be gone to Minneapolis to help with some cleanup after the May 22 tornado.
City Administrator Brad Swenson said the nature of Uselman's trip was intended to be personal, not official.
Mayor Wayne Wolden expressed appreciation for the help the city of Wadena received from Minneapolis in the aftermath of its own tornado.
"I drove down to Minneapolis on the front edge of that storm," council member Kay Browne said, recounting a trip to the Twin Cities during the May 22 tornado.
