Suzanne C. Aiken

Suzanne C. Aiken of Yachats, Ore., died Jan. 6, 2013, as a result of injuries sustained in a traffic accident north of Waldport, Ore. Her mother, Louise Raether, was riding with her to church and was also killed.

"Suzi" was born in Eau Claire, Wis., on Dec. 3, 1943, the oldest of four daughters born to Harvey and Louise Raether. On Aug. 17, 1963, she was married to Les Aiken of Fall Creek, Wis. Their union resulted in the birth of two daughters, Peggy and Kathleen.

Suzi lived in Fall Creek and later in Wadena, Joliet, Ill., Jackson, Ohio, and Terre Haute, Ind. In 2000 she and Les retired to the coast of Oregon and built their retirement home in Yachats.

Les died suddenly in 2004. Suzanne's mother and father had lived with them since 2003 and enjoyed many field trips up and down the coast with them.

After her father, Harvey, passed away in 2006, Suzi and Louise continued to live together until their deaths.

Suzi was always "buttoned up and organized," which suited her well for a variety of different financial clerk positions in a bank, hospital, college and her church. She loved to travel to see her daughters and their families.

Gardening was also a gift of Suzi's, so it was always a joy to have a tour of her gardens and landscaping. She also enjoyed reading, knitting, golfing and a good episode of "Masterpiece Theater."

Suzi is survived by her daughters, Peggy Martin (Roger) and Kathleen Rojas (Paul); granddaughters, Lauren and Sophie; sisters, Patti Ramstad (Ron Sheldon) of Roseburg, Ore., Jan Nordin (Gary) of Merrillan, Wis., and Cherie Brantner of Fall Creek; as well as Jan's children, Kim Freeman (Andy) along with their daughter Gabby, and Mitch Kuhnert; and Cherie's children, Chris Brantner of Fall Creek and Jeff Brantner of San Diego.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Les, and father, Harvey.

Suzanne was cremated, and her ashes are to be interred in her hometown of Fall Creek next to Les.

There are two services planned to honor the lives of Suzanne and Louise.

They were to take place Jan. 11, 2013, at Atonement Lutheran Church in Newport, Ore., and 11 a.m. Jan. 16, 2013, at St. James Trinity Lutheran Church in Fall Creek, with lunch and inurnment at Trinity Cemetery to follow.
