When Susan Mohs of Verndale won Superstation K106, KWAD and KNSP's $10,000 Payday Friday morning she was ready and waiting.

"I knew it," Mohs said. "I told everybody that I was going to win this. And I did."

She knew the day she qualified for the big cash prize, she said. She was working on a jigsaw puzzle when her husband, Randy Mohs, came home.

"He looked at me, and he said 'honey you're going to win $10,000," she recalled.

He said it jokingly, she said, but certainty instantly hit her and she said, "yup, I am."

Mohs doesn't know why she knew it, she said.

"It's been just a great answer to prayer, that's for sure," she said.

Friday morning was an exciting time for Mohs.

She told her daughter, Sydney, they had to leave by 7 a.m. to drop her off for school so she could get to work at Wadena Evangelical Church before they gave the money away at 7:30 a.m.

When she got to work there wasn't a radio, she said, so she couldn't keep track of what was going on with the contest. She looked at the clock and at 7:35 a.m. she knew Paul Harvey was done and they were ready to announce a winner. Then she heard a noise outside.

"So I look and they come flying in here and I was like, you have got to be kidding me," she said. "I knew it, and I was still completely surprised."

Mike Danvers, Kyle Gylsen and Sherry Linnes were there with a large $10,000 check with her name on it.

She knew she was on the radio and had to be careful what she said. She turned her trademark "holy crap" into an exclamation of "holy crud."

She was too shocked to answer their questions of what she was going to do with the money.

"I'm trying to answer and I'm just blown away," she recalled.

She called Sydney, who told her mom she must be messing with her.

"Kyle takes the phone out of my hand and says 'Sydney this is Kyle from the radio' and then I hear her really scream because she recognized his voice," Mohs said.

She tried to call her husband, but he was driving in a dead zone on the way into work, she said. She had to wait for him to call.

"All he says is 'are you kidding me?' Mohs said.

Winning the money was a surreal experience, she said.

"It was very, very bizarre," she said.

It was an interesting year for her, she said. She lost 62 pounds and gained $10,000.

She has some ideas for the money, she said, including paying off some bills and possibly buying a used car. She's going to take her time deciding.

"I'm excited about it," she said. "It's been an interesting day to say the least."
