Summer Library Reading Program: that's a wrap!
The Summer Library Reading Program finished in style this year. A total of 244 children participated in the program. There were 173 younger children and 71 teens to be specific. The most impressive piece of information I want to share with you is the number of hours the children spent reading throughout the eight-week period. The younger children logged in 1,539 hours and the teenagers 1,940 hours, for a grand total of 3,479 hours of quality reading time during their summer vacation. Awesome job everyone!
The Summer Library Program wrap-up finale with Robert and Lynn Halbrook was a fun and entertaining conclusion with the "Imagineering at Your Local Library" show. The show brought books to the forefront of being creative and expressing yourself, as well as some fun magic tricks and a lot of audience participation. I'm happy to say we had a library full!
There were quite a few prize winners this year that we would like to acknowledge. Some kids were here when we did the drawing and received their prizes right away, but we still have others on the shelf waiting to be claimed. Before I list the winners of the "tangible" items I would like to say that every one of our participants is a huge winner in our eyes. You have not only expanded your imagination and creativity, but greatly improved your reading skill levels as well. Congratulations -- that's the prize everyone!
The winners of the boy and girl bicycles are Toby Wood and Summer Anderson. The scooters went to Jessica Nelson and Zachary Meeks. Other prize winners were, Atalie Anderson, Jesse Collins, Krista Defoe, Ryan Grendahl, Mack and Lindy Jones, Elise Kallevig, Delany Kopphahn, Lydia Lillquist, Michael Markie, Samuel Moore, Sara Names, Heaven Opsal, Luis and Adrian Perez, Jarrett Pettit, Lance Pierce, Gabrielle Weiner, Andrea Westerberg, Jovanna Morgan, Jennica Peterson, and Carter Huhta. If your name is on the list, please come in and pick up your prize.
Looking forward to spending the rest of the summer reading peacefully? Try some of our display books for August. There's some "hot sizzling" fiction, golf books celebrating National Golf Month, a Titanic display just in case you happen to be needing more information before or after attending the exhibit, and of course, a lot of back to school books.
Have a happy summer's end, and see you at the library!
