Sullivan takes Wadena Pioneer Journal's top job
Dain Sullivan is the Wadena Pioneer Journal's new editor and general manager.
Sullivan, 23, graduated from high school in Oakes, N.D. and attended North Dakota State University where he majored in journalism and minored in business administration.
Sullivan has held positions with the Forum of Fargo-Moorhead, the Detroit Lakes Tribune and the Valley City (N.D.) Times-Record. He was also web producer for KVLY's "Valley News Live."
Prior to joining the Pioneer Journal, Sullivan was a general assignment reporter for the Dickinson (N.D.) Press.
Sullivan spent his summers in Otter Tail County when he was growing up and has close ties to the area. His parents live in Perham and he is related to a number of people in the northeast Otter Tail County community.
Sullivan was headed for a career in business when he realized that writing had to be part of his working life.
"I've loved to write my whole life," Sullivan said. "I've always loved to hear stories and write about them."
Sullivan is an avid fisherman and also enjoys music.
Sullivan is replacing Steve Schulz who has been with the Pioneer Journal for six years, first as editor and later editor and publisher.
Schulz's last day was April 20. He has taken a job in Fergus Falls at New Dimensions Home Health Care.
"I had the pleasure of meeting Dain previously and was very impressed with him," Schulz said. "He's a talented and motivated guy, and the fact he has ties to this area was a real bonus. I'm confident he'll do a great job in leading the Pioneer Journal in the future."
Sullivan will begin his duties May 1. He was in Wadena Wednesday through Friday to get acclimated and look for housing.
