Baseball was this year's I Love to Read Month theme, thanks to a four-week reading program called "Hawkeye's BookWorms" sponsored by the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks minor league baseball team.

The RedHawks BookWorm program was designed to benefit children of all ages and reading abilities. Each WDC teacher set their own reading level, so students were challenged, explained Loni Niles, media center specialist at WDC.

At the program, a teacher from each grade shared how many students hit a home run by reaching their reading goals. Members of WDC baseball team were invited to the celebration too. Baseball players Jonathan Goeden, David Najjar, Kenny Sakry, Ryan Redfield and head coach, Kyle Dykhoff, each shared with the students their favorite book growing up. K-6 students cheered and clapped to hear the players and Coach Dykhoff's favorite books. It was a grand slam!
