State waterfowl season to begin Sept. 22

The Sept. 22 date set for Minnesota waterfowl opener will be the earliest in the last 45 years.

The DNR split the state into two hunting zones last year with different season dates as part of an effort to provide additional hunting opportunity as birds migrate from north to south. The addition of a third zone furthers that approach.

Wadena County falls into the North Zone where the season will run Sept. 22-Nov. 20.
