State-ranked Wolverines keep rolling

Sue Volkmann's unbeaten Wadena-Deer Creek Wolverines sharpened their skills against Class A power Bertha-Hewitt Monday by defeating the Bears 25-11, 25-14, 25-15 at Bertha.

Courtney Volkmann was dominating at the service line for the state-ranked Wolverines with 10 aces. The senior standout also had 26 assists, eight digs and three kills.

Emily Miron had a powerful game at the net with 14 kills and six blocks. Brittney Noon and Kelsi Crawford combined for 15 kills.

The Wolverines received 10 digs from libero Hope Theisen.

The Wolverines turned in one of their most suffocating defensive performances of the season Monday night as they swept the Cardinals in three games.

Courtney Volkmann came up with 11 ace serves to compliment her 23 set assists.

Volkmann and Rachael Carlisle combined for 19 digs as the WDC defense surrendered only 19 points in three games.

Rachel Craig paced the Wolverines with six blocks. Brittney Noon and Emily Miron combined for 17 kills.

Rachel Craig and Emily Miron combined for 21 blocks and Courtney Volkmann recorded 29 assists as the Wolverines defeated the Mainstreeters in three games.

Volkmann also had 14 digs and nine ace serves.

Brittney Noon led the Wolverines with 13 kills and she joined Volkmann in contributing 14 digs.
