State-ranked Bears remain unbeaten with 60-40 win over Wolverines
The unbeaten Bertha-Hewitt Bears used solid defense and balanced scoring Tuesday night to chalk up a 60-40 victory over the Wadena-Deer Creek Wolverines.
The state-ranked Bears got double figure scoring from three players. Kendra Stokes paced the Bears with 13 points. Jessica Finck tacked up 12 points and Corrina Tindal netted 10.
WDC's Courtney Volkmann led all scorers with 17 points. Rachael Carlisle came off the bench to net seven points. The Wolverines shot an icy 25 percent from the field.
"You won't win many games shooting 25 percent," WDC head coach Brian Silbernick said.
The 60 points they gave up to the Bears is the most the Wolverines have allowed in a single game this season. The Wolverines surrendered only 26 points in a Dec. 8 victory over Park Rapids and were giving up 39.3 points a game entering their meeting with the Bears.
"Besides a couple lapses on transitioning back to defense, our half court defense was pretty good," Silbernick said. We need to do a better job moving on our feet on defense and no fouling."
The loss left the Wolverines with a 2-2 season mark.
