Staples Tour of Homes is Sept. 20
The Staples Area Tour of Homes will be held from 1-4:30 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 20, with many unique homes to visit.
"Nothing you see will be the same -- it is definitely not boring and everyone can identify with something," said Darla Peterson, Tour of Homes co-chairperson.
Stephen and Dr. Julie Benson's contemporary farmhouse built in 2009 has satellite and computer hookups in all rooms, main living areas have programmable light switches, intercom with remote access to Internet radio, CD player, or hard drive for stored music. It also features Brazilian teak hardwood floors.
Scott and Barb Markus live in a house built by Scott's grandfather which at the time had no running water and an outhouse. After many remodeling projects it is now a real showcase and one of its features is a southern-style front porch and huge deck.
In 1934, the Faith Lutheran Church was built and served the congregation many years. Janet Bailey has preserved the incredible architectural features, grand open spaces, cathedral beamed ceilings and beautiful wood floors after turning it the Landmark Inn into a marvelous retreat center.
"Modest Eclectic Whimsy" is how Amy Hunter describes her smaller home. The decorations are items purchased at thrift stores, auctions, garage sales, and art work done by local artists and friends. The east side porch is her creative area. Many beautiful flowers showcase this home.
Shawn and Steph Jordahl have turned their 35-year ranch style home into a magnificent two story home with the latest decorating concepts. Poured concrete floors and huge cultured stone fireplaces are some features.
What do you do with all your stuff? Stan and Rose Edin had to make this decision when they move from their large home to a townhouse.
"This is the age of color," Rose said. "As in a painting, colors will do wonders for a room."
There is much to see and enjoy from all their travels.
White pillars, arched windows and stone work that accents the entryway greet you at Scott and Jean Oddens new home. This is a place you can relax in the hot tub in the spa room with the Crow Wing River flowing by.
Advanced tickets may be purchased at Miller True Value, First Int. Trust Bank, Staples World or at the Staples Depot the day of the tour.
