Staples man faces failure to register charges
A 61-year-old man from Staples faces two counts of failing to register as a sex offender in Wadena County District Court.
A Wadena County sheriff's deputy and a community corrections officer visited the registered address of Frederick Henry Kern in late August, court documents said. The two found the registered address was a trailer house where the grass was overgrown and a bee hive covered the door to the house, suggesting no one had been there for a while.
When authorities were able to interview Kern, he said he was working in a self-employed capacity in the Twin Cities, and was staying in motels there, court records said. He is required to register any job and any change of address until Jan. 12, 2020, according to conditions of his release.
Two counts of failing to register as a sex offender were filed Aug. 29 in district court. His initial appearance was set for Sept. 12.
