Sports, movies and television series success...
It has been a couple of fun weeks going to a movie and watching a new TV series that featured graduates from my alma mater, Minnesota State University, Moorhead. In fact, let's add one more name to the list - David Joerger from Staples. Joerger has had success in the coaching ranks at every level and is a winner. So, it should not be much of a surprise to see that, in his first year as head coach, he has guided the Memphis Grizzlies basketball team to the first round of the National Basketball Association playoffs.
I saw the movie "God's Not Dead" recently at the Cozy Theatre. The movie stars Minnesota native Kevin Sorbo, whose claim to fame was playing Hercules in a television series a few years back. Sorbo was a senior my freshman year in college so it was a bit strange that I had him in a couple classes that year. He had picked up another major, advertising, to go along with his marketing major. The classes I had with him were sort of like church in that we found a place to sit and kept it for all future class periods. Our seats were next to each other and nobody was going to take the seat of the man who would play Hercules. "Sorbs" never hung out with the other freshman and me, but since I saw him most days, he was "Minnesota Nice" to me. I am delighted his latest movie to is a good thing and the message from "God's Not Dead" has done so well for him.
Finally a fellow MSUM alum, Tom Musgrave, plays a character named Bo Munk in the new, critically acclaimed series, "Fargo" that made its debut recently. If the success of the series continues, it will certainly propel Musgrave's career as a successful one and that would be a good thing.
