The Wadena-Deer Creek Wolverines clinched the Mid-State Conference title Friday with a 10-7, 12-2 sweep of Staples-Motley.

Steph Perkins and Steph Hahn each notched victories as WDC improved to 10-0 in the Mid-State.

Perkins issued six walks in the opener but also struck out five Cardinals and allowed just four earned runs. Megan Schmidt and Sam Holweger both went 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Kendra Grothmann was 2-for-4 and scored twice.

Rachel Hoemberg went 2-for-4 in the loss.

A six-run second inning boosted Wadena-Deer Creek to victory in Game 2.

Perkins was 3-for-3 at the plate and scored twice. Holweger went 2-for-4 and drove in one run.

Hahn surrendered only three hits and one walk while striking out two.

The sweep gave Wadena-Deer Creek a 13-1 record overall.

The Wolverines claimed both ends of a twinbill with the Panthers on the Park Rapids field Tuesday.

Craig Klawitter's team bombarded the Panthers with 17 hits in the first game. Steph Perkins, Kendra Grothmann, Sam Holweger and Lexi Hoemberg each collected three hits. Holweger drove in three runs with Perkins and Grothmann both scored three times. Hoemberg drove in a pair of runs.

Perkins fanned three and walked one in the five-inning victory.

Hoemberg and Kelly Defoe combined for three hits and two runs as WDC racked up a one-run victory in Game 2.

Steph Hahn scattered five hits while walking one and fanning one.

The Panthers were charged with six errors in Game 2.
