Skogen judges Region II FFA speaking contests
Wadena radio broadcaster, farmer and former legislator Dan Skogen judged Region II FFA public speaking events held Feb. 16 at First Lutheran Church in Brainerd. Also judging contests was Urban Otremba, city councilman from Little Falls.
Future Farmer of America (FFA) contests are known as Career Development Events or CDEs. Minnesota Region II FFA is made up 19 schools of the northeast part of the state, ranging from Royalton, Upsala to Duluth and Blackduck.
FFA members participated in Job Interview, Farm Bureau Discussion, FFA Creed Speaking, Prepared Public Speaking, and Extemporaneous Speaking. Participants are judged on content, knowledge, organization, voice, expression, stage presence, and general effect. Judges were also given five minutes to ask questions on the participant's presentation. Topics included Agriscience and Technology, Agrimarketing and International Agricultural Relationships, Food and Fiber Systems and Urban Agricultural. Each topic had sub topics in which FFA members could choose to speak from.
