Sentence to Service worker injured in logging accident
A member of the Todd Wadena Sentence to Service crew had to be airlifted to the Twin Cities April 6 after a tree struck him in the head at the Huntersville State Campground.
The Wadena County Sheriff's Department said Chad James Westring, 28, a Todd County inmate from Little Falls, was cutting a dead jack pine tree, which got caught between two oak trees. The end of the jack pine snapped back and hit Westring in the head. He was wearing a helmet, which was dented by the impact, the sheriff's office said.
Rescuers from the WCSO, Menahga first responders and Menahga Fire Department were hindered by soft, muddy roads but were able to reach Westring and bring him back to a staging area near the intersection of Wadena County Road 15 and Huntersville Forest Road, where he was loaded on a helicopter and airlifted to North Memorial Medical Center in the Twin Cities.
