Senior Companions recognized for service

Area Senior Companions serving in Wadena County were recognized at their annual banquet in Brainerd Dec. 10.

The following Senior Companions were recognized: Bob Hanninen, 5 Years; Gladys Erickson, 7 Years; Sandra Tanner, 4 Years; Cindy Scott (staff), LSS Respite and Caregiver Coordinator; Anita Phillips, 13 Years; Deanna Lietz, 1 Year and Glenda Gilster, six months.

The Senior Companion Program is a part of the National Senior Service Corps along with the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program and Foster Grandparent Program.

Senior Companions provide companionship, transportation and assistance to elderly community members allowing them to continue to live independently in their own homes.

Senior Companions serve 15 or more hours a week and receive a small tax free stipend, mileage and the satisfaction of helping others.
